When ex-postal-worker Scott Drummond had his NDE aged twenty-eight during a surgical procedure on his badly injured thumb, he found himself floating near the ceiling as he watched the nurse leave the room in a panic saying she had (accidentally) killed him; he watched the surgery proceed from near the ceiling with the doctor working to save his thumb and his life—alongside an invisible companion: “We sat there and watched the operation.”
After being instructed mentally not to look back, Drummond found himself standing alone in a beautiful field of wildflowers, tall trees and long grass—the peacefulness of this realm was striking. At this point his invisible psychopomp left him alone to soak in the atmosphere.
Drummond then saw a white cloud in front of him which seemed to trigger a full life review from the day he was born up to his then-current age. He then “walked up to this white cloud and an arm came through…and I reached towards his hand, and he said, ‘It is not yet your time, you have more things yet to do.’”
The arm then withdrew into the cloud and Drummond found himself back in his body. He described the arm and hand that reached out as very masculine and muscular, like someone who worked in farming. Drummond explained to his doctor after being revived that he “didn’t want to come back—it was too beautiful where I’d been.”
In all, Drummond had been pronounced dead and remained so fully for twenty minutes. The NDE ultimately changed the course of his life.
It is enlightening to note some of the comments shared in response to his video interview on Youtube. Note that I am using their Youtube handles/names without alteration.
Christina:
“The morning my aunt passed away she was lying in bed quietly with her husband as the sun was coming up. She had cancer and was very weak. She told my uncle, ‘They are here for me. I have to go now.’ He asked her who she saw and she said there were small angels in the room that looked like beautiful little children and she also saw her mother and father and several family members reaching out to her to come with them. He told her it was alright to go with them. She passed so peacefully and with such joy on her face.”
JLAKeener77 said: “A couple hours before my dad passed away about two years ago, he started to tear up, and I asked him what was wrong. He said, ‘Oh my God. It's so beautiful. You wouldn’t even believe it.’ After saying that, he fell asleep [and passed away]…”
Holden stated: “My mother passed away and was gone for only two minutes and they put her in an induced coma for a couple days to let her heart rest. When she awoke, she told a story identical to yours [Scott’s]!! The vivid colors, the speaking to each other but with your minds, not with your mouths, the beauty, the peace…”
Rolando had an experience similar to Drummond’s after drowning in a pool as a teen: “The exact same thing that this man explains happened to me as well…[L]ike he said no words were spoken but you could hear them. I was given an option while I was laying there in the grass super calm and peaceful, but freaking out at how soft the grass was and how peaceful I felt.”
Bret and Mindy affirmed Drummond’s experience: “This happened to me...The arm and a voice came through that said ‘You made it.’ It was so beautiful, so amazing, so peaceful...It changed my life also. Opened my eyes.”
cigarbuddyoc: “This is exactly what happened to me, only it was my mother’s mother that reached out to me and pushed my spirit back in my body, telling me it was not my time. I also did not want to come back because it was so peaceful and warm and I was with my grandma who raised me.”
Heart of Playdoh stated: “My grandma died about 10 years ago. Before she passed she told her sister ‘You can’t imagine what I am seeing.’ Her sister asked ‘What?’ My grandma couldn’t describe it. Then she said ‘I feel so much love, so much love.’ Then she passed away.”
There are numerous comments by the public sharing NDEs during which they were told it was not yet their time and to return, as well as other deathbed vision reports, and comments reinforcing elements of Drummond’s experience. Additionally there are many accounts of connecting with a deceased loved one in a profound dream.
Hospice nurse of sixteen years Fabi Williams offered her professional insight:
“My experience from what patients have told me and my own contact with two deceased relatives is that we are never alone in the dying process. As we get closer to death we become more spiritually aware and connected to the afterlife, and more importantly, with relatives, friends and spirit guides that are there to comfort us and bring us across to them. It is a joyous reunion of total belonging loving and healing, and is more real to us than this life which becomes as a distant dream.”
A physician specializing in cardiovascular diseases also commented on the thread adding, “I’ve heard this same story [Drummond’s] from many of my patients over the years.”
All of this only seems implausible if one insists on interpreting the data from a materialistic standpoint. Materialism cannot convincingly explain away how so many people in these situations have such uncannily similar experiences - particularly if they are clinically dead at the time.
No one has even demonstrated that consciousness arises from matter in the first place.
On the other hand, if we accept the premise that consciousness is the ground of reality itself, and in fact, the ONLY thing that ultimately exists, then these experiences can easily be accounted for and accommodated.
As Tom Bearden has pointed out, any reality shared by two or more people is, by definition, a consensus reality (for them).
Clearly the evidence suggests that there are (many/limitless) consensus realities that can be inhabited by any number of souls after the death of the physical body.
The body may not be immortal, but my 20 years of study in the nature of reality demonstrates that consciousness most definitely is (immortal—and infinite).
I make this case in great detail in Book 2 of The Grand Illusion (coming in 2023).
